About STAR BEAR ATELIER
Amy June Roe Founder & Creative Director, Star Bear Atelier
I help small businesses build the online presence they actually need — not just the one they thought to ask for. Those two things are often very different. And in my experience, the gap between them is exactly where the good work happens.
Star Bear Atelier is a boutique creative studio based in Cameron, NC, specializing in bespoke website design, SEO, and digital strategy for small businesses and service providers who are ready for an online presence that finally feels as clear and intentional as the work behind it.
I didn't set out to build a digital strategy studio. I started with SEO.
SEO led to blog writing. Blog writing led to website design. And somewhere along the way, I started noticing something that would eventually change the shape of everything I do: most people didn’t actually know what they were asking for.
They’d come to me wanting a new website when what they really needed was clearer messaging first. They’d ask for help with social media when the real problem was the website couldn’t convert the traffic they were already getting. They’d request blog content with no strategy connecting it to their goals.
I kept having the same conversation — the gentle redirect, the “here’s what you asked for, and here’s what I think will actually help.” After years of that, it became clear: strategy is what most small businesses are missing, and most of them don’t even know it’s what they need.
That’s not a criticism. It’s the nature of being a specialist in your own work. You’re excellent at what you do — you just haven’t spent years thinking about how digital presence, messaging, search visibility, and content strategy all fit together. That’s my job. That’s what I’ve spent six years learning to do for people.
Even now, with AI making it easier than ever to build a website, write content, or run a campaign — the question I hear most often is still “I don’t even know where to start.” That’s exactly where Star Bear Atelier comes in.
What I genuinely love — the part that makes this work feel worth it — is creating that home base. A clear, strategic, beautifully built digital presence that a client looks at and thinks: yes. That’s it. That’s finally it.
A small bear, a French word, and a Southern accent.
I wanted a business name I loved saying – one I would be happy to repeat for the rest of my career.
Two things I love learning about: bears and astronomy. We have sun bears, and moon bears, and one day “star bear” popped into my head and I thought, yes, that’s cute, I love that.
Then I got to thinking about it more. A star bear. What would a star bear even do? And somewhere in that spiral I landed on something that actually felt true: what I do is a lot like taking individual stars scattered across a giant night sky and helping them form a constellation. Something that makes sense. Something people can navigate by.
So I went looking for the right word for the space where that work happens. Searching synonyms for “studio,” I came across atelier — a space for craftspeople, for people making things and bringing their ideas to life. That was it.
About that other word
An atelier is a French word for a craftsperson's studio — a small, intentional workshop where careful work happens. It felt exactly right for what this is.
Technically, in French, you don't pronounce the R. It's ah-teh-LYAY. Very chic. Very continental.
"In the South, bear and atelier rhyme."
Here in North Carolina, everyone pronounces the R. Every single time. And honestly? I wouldn't have it any other way.
The star part
Stars ended up as a through-line through everything — the language, the branding, the whole "taking up the right kind of space" philosophy. It turned out a star bear was the perfect center for all of it: a little unexpected, easy to remember, and completely ours.
wORKING WITH ME IN ACTION.
I want to be useful, not impressive. The goal isn’t to hand you something polished and disappear — it’s to leave you with a digital presence you understand, you’re proud of, and you can actually use. Here’s how that usually goes.
We start with a free discovery call. No intake form that takes 45 minutes to fill out. No proposal before we've even talked. Just a conversation about where your business is, where you want it to go, and whether I'm the right person to help you get there. I'll tell you honestly if I think I'm not.
Structure, messaging, and strategy come before design or copy — every time. A beautifully built website on a shaky foundation is still a shaky foundation. This step is where things start to feel less scattered and more like an actual plan.
I keep clients in the loop at every stage. This isn't a hand-it-off situation. The best results come from real collaboration — and I genuinely enjoy the back-and-forth of building something together. You'll never wonder what's happening or when.
Before we wrap up, I make sure you're comfortable with what we've built — that you understand how it works, how to update it, and what to do next. A launch is a beginning, not an ending. I want you set up to keep growing from it.
The principles behind every project.
These aren’t marketing points. They’re the things I’ve come to believe after six years of doing this work — the ideas that shape how every Star Bear Atelier project gets approached.

Sometimes we don't know what we need — and that's okay
You're an expert in your business. I'm an expert in mine. Part of my job is helping you get clear on what will actually move the needle before we start building anything. Strategy before design. Always.

Clarity is one of the most generous things you can offer
When your website is hard to understand, you're making potential clients work harder than they should. Clear messaging, clear services, clear next steps — that's not just good design. It's genuinely helpful.

Your website is the center. Everything else orbits around it
Not your social media. Not your newsletter. Not your ads. Your website is where everything points. When that foundation is strong, everything else — the content, the campaigns, the SEO — works harder with less effort.

Small means intentional — and intentional means better
I keep my client roster small on purpose. Not because I can't take on more, but because every business I work with deserves real attention — not a rush job squeezed between seventeen other projects. You'll always know you're a priority here.
If any of this sounds like what you've been looking for
You don’t have to have everything figured out before we talk. Most people don’t. The discovery call is exactly for that — figuring out together whether this is the right fit and what the right kind of support looks like for your business.
